Set within beautiful Hampshire countryside, the Parish of Micheldever is the City of Winchester’s most northerly parish and shows evidence of Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman settlement in the past. A written history exists from the 9th century when Micheldever was the property of King Alfred the Great. Over the years the village was primarily a self contained farming community, but with the arrival of the railway in 1840, a station was built 2 miles north of Micheldever at Andover Road. A village grew up around the railway station and this became known as Micheldever Station.
The nearby city of Winchester, England’s ancient capital is well known for its 11th century cathedral and King Arthur’s Round Table. Delightfully set by the banks of the river Itchen, the city offers a vast range of thing s to do and places to visit, including historic buildings, museums, galleries, cinema and theatre. In addition, there are parks, gardens, riverside walks, fairs and festivals and a host of other family attractions waiting to be explored. Winchester also provides fine shopping and an excellent range of cafes, restaurants, bars, inns and pubs. For keeping fit, the river Park Leisure Centre offers great facilities for swimming and other activities. The towns of Andover and Basingstoke are just over 10 miles from Ellis Mews, offering further opportunities for shopping and entertainment.
