Proud of its maritime tradition, Portsmouth has been an important naval port for centuries. The Historic Dockyard, home to HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, the Mary Rose and the Royal Naval Museum, celebrates this illustrious past. Also commemorating this maritime heritage, the 170 metre tall Spinnaker Tower at Gunwharf Quays, opened in 2005, offers amazing views over the city, the south coast and the Isle of Wight.
For a touch of individuality, Southsea town centre offers an interesting range of independent shops, alongside some equally interesting bars and cafés. Here you can also enjoy great sea views, four miles of beach and the green open spaces of Southsea Common.
Between Southsea and Camber’s Edge, the cobbled streets of Old Portsmouth are home to some fine old pubs and cafés, as well as Portsmouth’s Anglican Cathedral.
