The new houses in Rochester are located in the village of Strood. This village boasts local shops, a nursery, primary school, pub and excellent recreation centre. The centre of Rochester offers everything from fine antiques to the latest fashions – together with several good restaurants, cafes and inns. High Street and department stores can be found in nearby Chatham, together with cultural attractions including the famous Historic Dockyard.
Entertainment in Rochester includes productions at the Medway Little Theatre and festivals such as ‘The Dickensian Christmas’, a candlelight procession harking back to the times of the famous resident Charles Dickens. For film buffs, a multiplex cinema is within walking distance of Medway Gate at the Medway Valley Leisure park, which has several restaurants too. The Leisure Park also boasts a Virgin Active centre, complemented by several more private health clubs in the area.
A magnet for sailing and watersports enthusiasts, the Medway estuary is a major feature of the area, while the magnificent surrounding countryside is perfect for walking, cycling and equestrian pursuits.
Another of Medway’s strong points is education, with a good host of state and independent schools, many that regularly receive excellent Ofsted reports. Transport links are strong with good access to the M2 and M25 putting Gatwick and Heathrow within 40 and 65 miles respectively. Dover and Folkstone can be reached in just over an hour by car, while London Victoria is around 60 minutes by train from Strood station.
