Stoney Stanton was first known as ‘Stantone’ in 1086 when it was mentioned in the Domesday Book. The village was built on a rocky outcrop of ancient granodiorite, a hard stone used for road making.
In Stoney Stanton, as it was later named, quarrying soon became a major activity until 1958 when the quarries ceased. One quarry is now the site of Stoney Cove, one of the biggest diving centres in Europe providing something different for residents of all ages.
As well as Stoney Cove, there are many other attractions close by including Tropical Birdland and Mallory Park, which holds many events and concerts.
There is a great community spirit within the village, with a successful annual carnival, a thriving youth and adult football club, squash club and tennis club. Also in close proximity are two golf clubs; Hinckley Golf Club and Whetstone Golf Club.
Stoney Stanton is home to a number of local shops, restaurants, two public houses and a busy social club. The local churches are St Michael’s, built in 1149 and the living Rock Church, there is also one school, Manorfield C of E Primary School. William Bradford Community College, a specialist technology college, is just 4 miles away, and All Saints Church of England School is based in nearby Sapcote.

Leicester is a hub for entertainment with many bars and clubs and excellent shopping facilities, such as the Leicester Lanes and St Martin’s Square.
Nearby local towns include Hinckley, just 5 miles away, which has a wider range of local amenities and activities and Narborough supplying the local train station.
Despite being a rural village, it remains well connected to the rest of the country as it is well served by the M1, M6 and M69 motorways. Both East Midlands and Birmingham airports are less than 30 miles from Stoney Stanton, giving villagers access to the rest of the world.
