There are many listed buildings in the town, including the Grade II listed Royal Corinthian Yacht Club designed in 1931 by the modernist architect Joseph Emberton.

Grangewood Park is close to many water sports facilities and a sailing club, and is known in yachting circles as the 'Cowes of the East Coast'.
Dengie Hundred Sports Centre has a large sports hall with badminton, table tennis and other indoor sports, as well as a fully-equipped fitness suite with 21 stations, a bar, a crèche and many organised activity such as gymnastics, keep fit and martial arts. Outside facilities exist for tennis and hard surface 5-a-side football pitch.
Ormiston Rivers is an 'outstanding' academy, located close to the development. For younger children, there is St Mary's Church of England Primary School.
