Location Location
That famous catch-phrase certainly applies to Wigan as it's so central to the North West region. Liverpool and Manchester are 22 miles away, Warrington is 16 miles to the south, Bolton is 11 miles to the northwest and Preston is 18 miles to the north. The M6 takes you down to Birmingham in a couple of hours or in an hour and a half on the West Coast mainline from Wigan North Western station. Services from Wigan Wallgate station link with Liverpool and the Merseyrail network, as well as with Southport and Kirkby. Both stations are in the town centre.
Town and borough
Wigan has its sights set on an exciting new retail, leisure, commercial and residential redevelopment for the town centre. The wider borough of Wigan - the second largest in the Greater Manchester area - has facilities and amenities to cover all aspects of day-to-day living, leisure and entertainment, education and healthcare. As well as the parks and green spaces in town, there are three country parks a short distance away; Pennington Flash Country Park, Haigh Woodland Park and Beacon Country Park.
