Why buy a new home in Plymouth?

Known as 'Britain’s Ocean City’, Plymouth is fast becoming a popular place to set up home.

Plymouth is a historic waterfront city on the south coast of Devon, famous for its seafaring heritage. A vibrant and cultured city - living here means you'll be able to appreciate its rich history, host of entertainment venues, fun attractions and shopping opportunities first hand.

Be entertained

Plymouth has several venues for stage productions, including the Theatre Royal Plymouth with its wide range of genres and The Barbican Theatre, a venue for new names in the business.

The Barbican Leisure Park is a great place to enjoy fun times with friends. With a 15-screen Vue cinema, bowling alley, health club, restaurants, bars and a nightclub it will keep you entertained into the night.

Shop 'til you drop

Drake’s Circus, the West Country’s most popular shopping mall, boasts over 70 popular high street retailers and a good choice of eateries, all under one roof.

From the department stores of Cornwall Street, New George Street and Armada Way, to the unique independent stores of the West End, there are shops to suit every taste in Plymouth.

Enjoy the great outdoors

Being on the coast, Plymouth boasts a choice of beautiful beaches, many of which are located in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Bovisand is a sheltered sandy beach, ideal for family ball games and paddling in the warm waters, while Challaborough beach is great for rockpooling and building sand castles at low tide.

Plymouth Hoe is an expanse of green lawn situated behind the seafront cliffs. At its centre is Smeaton's Tower, a lighthouse with fantastic views of the harbour and across to Cornwall.

Get back to nature

Animal lovers will enjoy the nearby Monkey Sanctuary, an active rescue centre which is home to 36 individuals. With the chance to meet some of the residents, a walk around the wildlife gardens, a bat zone, play area and a café, the sanctuary is a relaxing and informative day out for all ages. Nearby Dartmoor Zoo is another wildlife-based experience, just 15 minutes from Plymouth.

Excellent transport links

The A38 dual-carriageway runs from east to west across the north of Plymouth, creating links to the M5 motorway and connecting Cornwall and Devon via the Tamar Bridge.

A regular international ferry operates from Millbay, taking cars and foot passengers directly to France and Spain. There is also a pedestrian ferry from the Mayflower Steps to Mount Batten and Torpoint Ferry across the River Tamar.
