Local information

The most northerly city in Cumbria, boasting the smallest population but the largest land area, Carlisle really does have something for everyone. Enjoy the buzz of the city with its wonderful array of shops, restaurants and bars, or take in the breathtaking countryside and many historic sites, all close by.

There is a huge range of local schooling for children of all ages nearby, including a range of primary schools; a Catholic secondary school and sixth form; an independent school for children from pre-school to senior school age; and Richard Rose Morton Academy – a comprehensive secondary school.

Great days out

There’s a multitude of things to see and do in Carlisle. The city has a Vue cinema; a bowling alley; two golf clubs; an ice rink; a Lazer Quest; the Urban Adventure high ropes and Eden Rock Climbing Wall. Leisure centres include The Pools Swimming and Health Centre and The Sands Centre - a leisure and entertainment venue offering live entertainment, gym and exercise facilities and a sports hall.

Getting out and about

Meander through Solway Firth salt marshes and dunes, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; or visit Tullie House; Carlisle Cathedral, dating back to 1122; or Hadrian’s Wall for some culture, peace and quiet or a great family day out. Located to the north-east is the stunning Border Forest Park and beautiful, peaceful Penrith to the south.

Shopping

The shopping is fantastic too as The Lanes Shopping Centre in Carlisle is the largest shopping destination in Cumbria and The Borders. Gretna Green, the gateway to Scotland is approximately 10 miles north offering a vast choice of retail therapy at the Gretna Gateway Retail Outlet.

You'll be well connected

The Lake District, Yorkshire, Humberside and the North Pennines are all easily accessible via great transport links, including the M6, M61, M62 and adjoining motorways. The development enjoys close links to the new northern bypass, with good train links from Carlisle station to Glasgow, Edinburgh and also south direct to London Euston, with many major destinations in between. There are also excellent links by train and the A69 to Newcastle, the Metrocentre at Gateshead and the east coast.
