Ripon is a historic cathedral city in the heart of Yorkshire and part of the borough of Harrogate. The city is the focal point for many nearby towns and villages - the nearest larger settlements are Harrogate, York, Thirsk and Northallerton.
The city centre is home a variety of retail shops and facilities. The weekly market is held on a Thursday and frequented by 120 stalls.
The nearby cities of Harrogate and York are easily accessible and home to many big brand stores alongside smaller boutique outlets.
Ripon and the surrounding cities, towns and villages provide plenty of dining and leisure opportunities. Within Ripon itself is the cathedral, racecourse and three museums. Nearby are the heritage sites of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. There’s also Newby Hall, a stately home, the 14th-century Ripley Castle, a modern theme park at Lightwater Valley, and two breweries in the nearby village of Masham.
There are quite a few options for schooling in the area. Ripon is home to Ripon Grammar School, a selective intake, state secondary school established in the mid 1500s. Opposite Ripon Grammar on Clotherholme Road is Outwood Academy Ripon, an Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ school which has around 700 pupils and is currently exceeding the national average for GCSE results.
