Andover

Surrounded by stunning countryside and picturesque villages, and with excellent transport links to many centres of industry including London, the market town of Andover in Hampshire ticks lots of boxes for homebuyers. Set in the rural county of Hampshire, on the banks of the River Anton, Andover has a history which stretches back to the 10th-century and encompassed, among other things, Vikings, wool, and Twinings tea. Today the town is a popular choice for families, who benefit from the good range of schools, superb commutability and glorious countryside and outdoor attractions on the town’s doorstep.

Andover has a good range of shops to keep you covered for everyday essentials, with several supermarkets, high street chains and banks, plus cafes and restaurants for meeting up with friends. If you fancy a spree, head 16 miles southeast to Winchester, where you’ll find a good range of high street and independent shops, or 22 miles east to Basingstoke and its Festival Place Shopping Centre, as well as several retail parks.

Families with children of all ages will be pleased with the educational facilities in Andover – there are around 20 schools in the town, including many primary schools, several secondary schools, two schools for pupils with special educational needs, and a boarding school.

One of the biggest draws of living in Andover is without a doubt the wealth of opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy nature. There are many local beauty spots within walking distance of the town centre, including peaceful Charlton Lakes park and garden, beautiful Anton Lakes with great facilities for children, and popular Rooksbury Mill nature reserve. Also around the town are several playgrounds, parcels of woodland and sports amenities such as an athletics club, golf course and BMX track.

Surrounding the town, you’ll find the stunning countryside of Hampshire, often considered one of England’s best-kept secrets. Undulating greenery and country lanes connect numerous picture-perfect villages. St Mary Bourne, Hurstbourne Priors, Goodworth Clatford, Abbotts Ann and Monxton are among the prettiest close to Andover, offering gorgeous country walks and delicious pub lunches.

Great transport links

Andover is popular among commuters, and it’s easy to see why. To the south of the town, the A303 connects to the M3, and to the east the A34 leads to the M4, putting destinations such as Winchester, Basingstoke, Salisbury, Swindon, Reading and Southampton all within commuting distance.

Andover’s train station boast great connections to the surrounding areas as well as London – you can reach Waterloo in just over an hour. There are also good local bus services, a National Express coach station in the town centre, and the nearest airport is Southampton, a 35-minute drive away.
