Banbury

Set in the desirable county of Oxfordshire, Banbury is home to a fantastic range of amenities, great attractions, and links to the region’s most popular destinations. All of this, added to the fact that it’s a friendly and attractive place to live with historic buildings at every turn, means it’s a great choice for anyone looking to buy a new home in this beautiful part of the country. Settled by the Saxons in the 5th century, but with recent finds indicating an Iron Age settlement dating back to 200 BC, Banbury has a rich history that can still be felt in the narrow streets and charming old buildings in the town centre. Once the homes of Puritans during the Civil War, they now house a wealth of pubs, eateries, high street stores and independent businesses, and have been joined by a modern shopping centre and great infrastructure.

Make the most of local amenities

As well as the multitude of shops spread around the historic heart of the town and in Castle Quay Shopping Centre, Banbury also hosts a twice-weekly market selling food, plants and household items, plus the monthly farmers’ market where you can find delicious local produce. After a long day shopping you can head to one of the many restaurants and pubs, such as Ye Olde Reine Deer Inn where Oliver Cromwell is said to have planned the battle of Edge Hill.

If you want to explore shops and attractions outside of Banbury, you’ll find Bicester, Royal Leamington Spa, Oxford and Milton Keynes all within easy reach for a day trip.

Enjoy beautiful surroundings

There are plenty of green spaces to be found around Banbury. East of the popular Oxford Canal is Spiceball Park. Featuring three large fields, a children’s play area and a skateboard park, it’s an excellent choice for families. Adjacent to the main park there is also a sports centre with a 25-metre swimming pool, cafe, 150-station gym, sports hall and soft play area. In the heart of Banbury town centre, residents can also enjoy the ‘People’s Park’, a beautiful, ornamental park offering a community garden, rose garden, sensory garden, war memorial, fitness area, tennis/multi-use courts, and children’s play area.

Beyond the town, popular attractions include Broughton Castle, Upton House and Gardens, and Sulgrave Manor. You’ll also be well positioned to enjoy days out in the countryside, with the upper reaches of the Cotswolds just a short drive away.

Great transport links

Banbury sits just off the M40 which links London, Oxford, Leamington Spa and Birmingham. If you feel like getting off the beaten track, a network of country roads links to the A429 for trips into the Cotswolds. CrossCountry Rail, the Great Western Railway and Chiltern Rail all operate services to and from Banbury, and for travel further afield, the nearest airports are in Oxford, Coventry and Birmingham.
