Bradford

World-class culture, outstanding schools, award-winning cuisine and beautiful green spaces – it seems like a tall order for one location, but the West Yorkshire city of Bradford provides all of this and more. The city is an excellent choice for those looking to settle in the region, with plentiful amenities, attractions and family-friendly facilities, without the overly hectic feel of a larger city. If you do want that big city buzz, however, it’s just a half-hour journey to Leeds, one of the UK’s largest hubs. From commuters to families and first-time buyers, this up and coming city makes a great home for a range of buyers.

Everything you need

The bustling city centre, lined with a mixture of historic and modern architecture, is home to a wide range of shops and eateries. All your favourite high street brands can be found scattered throughout the centre as well as in the popular Broadway shopping centre. There’s also a plethora of independent stores, and two indoor markets at the Kirkgate Centre and Oastler Shopping Centre. As a resident of Bradford you’ll benefit from the many superb curry houses – the city is the undisputed Curry Capital of the UK.

World-class culture

With several galleries and museums, including the Peace Museum (the first of its kind), it’s easy to see why Bradford is bidding to the UK City of Culture for 2025. You could watch a film or go bowling at the Leisure Exchange entertainment complex, or meet friends at City Park – a stylish square and mirror pool that was the subject of a multi-million-pound investment. And venture 4 miles out of the city to reach the UNESCO World Heritage Centre of Saltaire, a preserved Victorian industrial village that’s also home to Salts Mill, a fantastic art gallery, shopping centre and restaurant complex.

Enjoy nature

Though Bradford has roots as a major industrial centre, there are several lovely green spaces to explore in and round the city. Lister Park, Peel Park, Bowling Park and Horton Park are all a short distance from the city centre and offer great open areas, scenic gardens and playgrounds. To explore the outdoors on a grander scale, a 35-minute drive or train ride will take you to the quaint spa town of Ilkley and its scenic moor which sits at the foot of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Great transport links

Bradford is located just north of the M62, which runs west to east connecting several major centre of industry – Leeds, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Rochdale can all be reached in well under an hour, and Manchester is just over an hour away by road. There are two train stations in the centre of Bradford – Bradford Interchange and Bradford Forster Square – which provide regular services throughout the region with connections to the rest of the country. The area is a served by a good bus network, and for travel further afield Leeds Bradford Airport is just 8.5 miles away.
