Carluke

Things can go either way from Carluke. Glasgow to the west and Edinburgh to the east, and both within very easy reach via the M8, making this a great location for a new home. The same goes for the countryside, with the Strathclyde Country Park outside Glasgow, and the Pentland Hills Regional Park outside Edinburgh just as easy to get to, though the Clyde Valley on your doorstep is a great asset too. Carluke has made the most of its position, to become a popular commuting town, with great facilities for family life.

One way or the other

The M8 is 8 miles to the north of Carluke, and from there it’s 14 miles into Glasgow and 33 miles to Edinburgh. Carluke itself is the meeting place for the A721 and the A73 which link the motorway with Peebles.  The A71 is the link to the M74, just above the town, before it heads on to Kilmarnock, and Irvine on the west coast. There’s a direct train link to Glasgow Central, taking about 40 minutes. Other train services take you to Lanark, Motherwell, and Hamilton, as well as a service to Edinburgh. Carluke also has a convenient circular bus route around town and an hourly express bus service into Glasgow. If you’re heading further afield, Glasgow Airport is just under 30 miles away at Paisley.

In town

Carluke is an important shopping centre for the wider area as well as for its own residents and there’s been good investment in the town centre over the last few years.  To back up the local shops, there’s a Tesco Superstore and an ALDI, an Asda at Newmains, and a Morrisons and Lidl in Lanark. Scotmid Co-operative is the town’s regional supermarket. This is Scotland’s fruit growing area, so you’ll be sure to find plenty of fresh local produce. To keep your children busy, there are five primary schools, and a secondary school – Carluke High School. To keep them active the Carluke Leisure Centre includes a gym, swimming pool, all-weather athletics track, and 3G synthetic football pitch, and there’s a great skatepark in town too.

Out and about

The Clyde Valley and the River Clyde are the local landmarks, heading south from Strathclyde Loch and Country Park. If you head due west to the Ayrshire coast, you’ll have the treat of sandy beaches and fabulous views across the Firth of Clyde to the Isle of Arran. Going into Glasgow for a day puts museums, art galleries, places to eat and places to shop in your hands. Heading uphill in the Pentland Regional Park, puts a panoramic view of Edinburgh at your feet.
