Garthamlock is one of Glasgow’s popular residential suburbs. It’s tucked between the M80 and the M8 before they join forces and head into the city. It’s right on the edge of Glasgow, yet it’s got some of the best edge of city parkland and green space on its doorstep, making it a popular choice for a new family home. You can be in the city in a flash, in the Seven Lochs Wetland Park in no time at all, or on the M8 heading for Edinburgh before you know it. With everything on the go, in and out of Glasgow, it’s wonderful to be able to step back a bit, and Garthamlock does that for you.
From this convenient location, you can join the M8 at Junction 12, or the M80 at Junction 2, and be in Glasgow in 15 minutes. If you prefer to travel in by train, the journey time is 20 minutes. If you need to head in the opposite direction, you can be in Edinburgh in just over an hour on the M8, and by train in just under an hour and a half. The M73 and M74 are within easy reach too, with the M74 offering a route into Glasgow to the south of the Clyde, or right down through rural central Scotland to Carlisle just over the border. It takes about 25 minutes to drive to Glasgow Airport for domestic and international flights. There are good bus services into Glasgow and the surrounding areas, with the fastest city service usually taking about 12 minutes.
Garthamlock has the usual range of local shops and services. It’s also got Glasgow Fort, a large shopping centre close to Junction 10 of the M8, that includes high street brands, an M & S Superstore, restaurants, and a cinema. The Parkhead Shopping Centre and The Lochs Shopping Centre are two of the local alternatives. This side of the city is well served by supermarkets and as well as Morrisons close to home, you’ve also got ALDI, Tesco Extra and an Asda Superstore in Parkhead, and another Asda Superstore at Robroyston. For dedicated high street shopping, eating out,and entertainment, you can’t do better than Glasgow city centre. There’s enough going on there for many shopping trips and treats.
Ashton Secondary School takes pupils from the local primary schools. Other secondary options in the neighbouring areas are St Andrews RC Secondary School, Smithycroft Secondary School, Lochend High School and All Saints Catholic Secondary School. For further education, Glasgow Kelvin College, Easterhouse Campus, is nearby, and the City of Glasgow College has two campuses in the city.
