If you need to commute into Glasgow, or to Stirling or Edinburgh, then Glenboig may well be your escape to the country at the end of the working day. It’s still very much a village, but only 10 miles from Glasgow, 20 miles from Stirling, and 43 miles from Edinburgh. It’s close to the network of motorways that converge on Glasgow, the M73, M8 and M80, it’s got a country park 3 miles away, and its own loch. With good village amenities, including its own primary school, and in a key location for city life, a new home here is a great move.
On the doorstep
Glenboig’s shops and services have grown with it, offering a post office, newsagents, choice of take-aways, and a Londis convenience store, as well as a number of other small businesses. Coatbridge is just 3 miles down the road, for supermarket shopping at Tesco Extra and Asda, and there’s an ALDI in Airdrie. For families with children, the Garnqueen Loch in the Glenboig Village Park has a play area, multi-use games area, and skate park, will keep all ages happy. The train station at Gartcosh is 5 minutes away, and from there you can be in central Glasgow in 15 minutes, ideal for work, shopping trips, restaurants, and big city entertainment.
Primary and pre-school aged children will be able to go to Our Lady and Saint Joseph’s Primary and Nursery School. The next step for your youngsters is Coatbridge High School and St. Ambrose High School under 4 miles away, and Airdrie Academy 5 miles away.
Glenboig is to the east of the M73 which links the M80, the M8, and the M74. The M80 joins the M9 just south of Stirling, the M8 takes you to Edinburgh where it joins the city ring road, and the M74 becomes the A74(M) as it heads south to the Scottish/English border, where it joins the M6. Glasgow Airport is 20 miles to the west at Paisley. It’s an easy commute by train into Glasgow, from Gartcosh Station to Glasgow Queen Street, with a convenient average journey time of 20 minutes.
Out and about
Whilst Glasgow takes care of all-year round entertainment venues, culture, and retail therapy, the countryside around the city is easy to access from Glenboig. The Drumpellier Country Park at Coatbridge covers 500 acres with moorland, woodland, two natural lochs, a Visitor Centre, adventure playground and an all-important café. If you want to head for the high ground, the Campsie Fells are an easy drive to the north of the M80.
