Haverhill

Haverhill has three counties on its doorstep, it’s in Suffolk, with Essex and Cambridgeshire as its close neighbours. Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Colchester, Braintree, Bishops Stortford, and Royston, complete a circle of key cities and towns, and key routes around it, leaving the countryside in between to a network of cross-country rural roads. It’s definitely not a backwater though. Haverhill has historic market town roots, and today it plays an important commercial and industrial role, keeping the local economy going. It will provide your new home with all the facilities and connections for modern day family life.

Transport links

The town has road links to the A11 to the west, the A14 to the north, the A134 to the east and the A120 to the south. The A11 in turn, links to the M11, the motorway route between Greater London and Cambridge. Trains on the Greater Anglia Line run services to London Liverpool Street from Whittlesford Parkway, Great Chesterford and Audley End, all just a short drive away. Locally owned, and locally managed, Stephensons bus services, operate throughout the town and surrounding area. Stansted Airport is 20 miles to the southeast, usually a 40-minute car journey, and Cambridge City Airport, much the same distance away, offers a range of domestic flights.

Local schools

The town has a great choice of primary schools and there’s a Montessori Nursery School too. Castle Manor Academy and the Samuel Ward Academy are the local secondary schools, with Linton Village College just out of town, about 6 miles away as another option.  West Suffolk College in Haverhill welcomes 16+ students, apprentices, and adult learners. It’s got a great range of part-time and full-time courses, vocational courses, and access courses to Higher Education.

Out and about

Sports clubs, an Arts Centre with cinema and theatre, a leisure centre with a swimming pool, Cineworld with five screens, parks and a golf course are among the town’s leisure amenities. Further afield but ideal for day trips, are Saffron Waldon’s ancient timbered buildings and boutique shopping, Cambridge’s historic colleges, the River Cam, and more shopping, and the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. For an escape to the country, the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is an hour’s drive away.
