Maghull

Maghull is a well-placed residential and light industrial base just outside Liverpool. It’s in a great location for easy access throughout Merseyside and to Greater Manchester, making it a good option for your new home. Urban life is of course part and parcel of living in Merseyside, and Maghull shares a busy working life. However, there’s another side to the story along the coast from Crosby up to Southport. It’s a stone’s throw from Maghull, with the wide sandy beach at Crosby and Blundellsands, the pine woods and dunes of Formby and Freshfield, and the seaside entertainment of Southport.

Transport links

Maghull is close to the meeting point for the M57 and the M58 at Aintree. From there, the A59 passes through the town into central Liverpool to the south, and towards Ormskirk and Burscough and ultimately on to Preston to the north. The A5758 and A565 will take you towards the coast and very quickly into the farming countryside to the north of Liverpool. The MerseyRail train network runs services to Maghull, linked to Liverpool’s underground system at Kirkdale. From Ormskirk there are connecting services to Preston and from Kirby there’s a link to Wigan. Trains from Maghull to central Liverpool take just under half an hour so it’s a great option for commuting as are the regular bus services connecting Maghull with Liverpool, Skelmersdale, Ormskirk and Wigan. Liverpool John Lennon Airport is just 18 miles to the south for your holiday flights.

Shopping list

Maghull has got local shops, supermarkets, and the Stafford Moreton Shopping Centre for all your day-to-day needs. There’s a huge shopping park at Aintree, which is just under 4 miles away and then of course Liverpool city centre is there for a major day of retail therapy. For something a bit different, Ormskirk Market is one of the UK’s oldest and most traditional outdoor markets. It’s only 5 miles away and markets are on Thursdays and Saturdays.

School list

There’s plenty of options for primary schools, including Lydiate Primary, Green Park, Summerhill, St Gregory’s, and Northway. Children can then go on to Maghull High School for their secondary education.

Out and about

Living just outside a major city brings you the benefit of a huge range of leisure and entertainment options. From a night out in Liverpool to a long beach walk at Crosby, from the Aintree Races to the Knowsley Safari Park, there’s always something to choose. Waterloo has got an excellent water sports centre adjoining Crosby Beach, and Parbold Hill, a short drive into Lancashire’s countryside, will give you a breath of fresh air, panoramic views, and a chance to stretch the family’s legs.
