Norfolk has some lovely traditional villages and Martham is no exception, with its village green, classic duck pond, old cottages and historic church. Its location is pretty special too, halfway between the famous Norfolk Broads and the North Sea. This rural setting for your new home won’t feel too far off the beaten track though, as the cathedral city of Norwich is less than 20 miles away and the seaside resort and port of Great Yarmouth is just over 10 miles away. With plenty of village amenities to help you settle in, this is a lovely place to bring up a family or to downsize and put leisure first.
Martham has excellent facilities for its residents. There’s a medical centre, the East of England Co-op, a range of takeaways – including a rather unique thatched fish & chip shop, a Sports & Social Club and a Community Centre. It’s an easy trip into Great Yarmouth for superstores and town centre shopping, as well as cheerful seaside entertainment for days out for all the family. The village primary school takes children for their early years, and they can then attend the local secondary school, Flegg High School, which is less than a mile away on the Somerton Road.
Transport and communication links
The B1152 takes you straight to the A47 Norwich to Great Yarmouth road. The nearest train station is at Acle, 6 miles away, and from there it’s an easy journey into Norwich for mainline services and Great Yarmouth for connections across East Anglia. Norwich International Airport is just north of the city and so it’s easy to get from Martham - the average drive time is 45 minutes. Norwich is the focal point for the wider area and from there you can reach Cambridge and the M11 and Bury St Edmunds and the A14 for Ipswich.
Time off and days out
If you love being outdoors, you’ll really appreciate the location here, on the edge of the Norfolk Broads. On or off the water, this is a unique landscape of waterways to explore and enjoy. Great Yarmouth offers a very different experience, with family fun along its Golden Mile and on the beach. Closer to home is Winterton-on-Sea with a long sandy beach just 3 miles away. Norwich is packed with fabulous shops and places to eat out in its historic centre.
