Northallerton

Northallerton has picked a prime spot between two National Parks, the North York Moors, and the Yorkshire Dales. This county town has always been a market centre for the surrounding rural area, and as it has grown, it has attracted light industry, agricultural businesses, and commerce as well as being home to North Yorkshire County Council. Today it’s a thriving, balanced town, with the wide High Street and busy market at its heart. Northallerton is close to the region’s main north south route, the A1(M) so there’s a direct line to Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Leeds. A new home here will be in a great location for heading to work or heading for the hills.

Getting around

The A1(M) is the key route serving the town, you join it to the west at Junction 51, Leeming Bar, just over 6 miles away on the A684. To the east you’ve got the A19 which connects York with Middlesbrough. It’s great to have these two big routes within easy reach but not running through the town.  The A168 takes you south to Thirsk and the A167 heads north to Darlington. The train station is on the East Coast Main Line and the direct route to London King's Cross takes less than 3 hours. For domestic and international flights, Teeside Airport and Leeds Bradford Airport are your closest options.

Staying at home

Northallerton has got great amenities for shopping, leisure, and entertainment. Some of the main national supermarkets are here, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Asda, and M&S Simply Food.  The High Street is a balance of national retailers and local independent shops, cafés and pubs. Market Day is Wednesday and Saturday, with stalls along both sides of the High Street. The town has got two GP surgeries and the Friarage is the local hospital. The Northallerton Leisure Centre has a swimming pool, gym, and fitness classes to keep you all on the go. There are 6 primary schools in the town, and Northallerton School & Sixth Form College is the secondary school, with two sites in the town.

Going out

The two National Parks will give you more than enough outside space for hiking, mountain biking and family days out. Harrogate and York to the south give you a different change of scenery, and for a breath of sea air, you can get to Whitby in just over an hour. If you want to stay at home to go out, Northallerton has got some popular pubs and restaurants in the centre for a night out, and the iconic Yorkshire Bettys Café Tea Rooms are in town too.
