Plymstock

Plymstock is a well-established residential town just outside the ‘Ocean City’ of Plymouth. It’s in a fantastic location if you love the great outdoors as it’s between the glorious South Devon coast and the wide-open space of the Dartmoor National Park. As a suburb of Plymouth, there are excellent transport links with the city centre which is under 4 miles away. Driving in or taking the bus, for work or for a day’s shopping, takes about half an hour. Plymstock is also within easy reach of the Devon Expressway (the A38) – the main route across South Devon and into Cornwall via the Saltash Bridge. The town has its own pedestrianised shopping precinct at The Broadway and there are other shops and services, including a choice of schools, in locations across the town and the collection of villages that it encompasses. This is an excellent, family-friendly place to set up a new home.

On the doorstep

With its easy access to the coast, you can enjoy fabulous walks and panoramic views across Plymouth Sound from Mount Batten, Jennycliff, Staddon Heights and Bovisand. These places are just a stone’s throw from Plymstock. For entertainment, Plymouth has everything that a family could want, including the National Marine Aquarium, the historic Barbican and the Theatre Royal. There’s great shopping at the purpose-built Drake Circus Shopping Mall in the town centre.

On the road

The A38 Devon Expressway is a major route serving Plymouth. It takes over from the M5 from Exeter and after crossing the Saltash Bridge into Cornwall, you can follow it all the way to Bodmin. Plymouth is on the mainline route for trains from London Paddington to Penzance. For destinations along the London Waterloo line you just need to change at Exeter. You’ll have the convenience of European ferry routes from Plymouth too, with the Brittany Ferry services.

Entertainment and leisure

The bonus of living close to a city is that you have plenty of things to do even when the weather is not obliging. There’s a huge Vue cinema complex and Ten Pin bowling on the way into the city centre - very convenient from Plymstock. Between them, the famous Barbican harbour and the Royal William Yard offer plenty of options with all their bars and restaurants. When the weather is good, The Hoe is the venue for outdoor entertainment, festivals and fairs.
