Charles Church

This large Yorkshire town comes hand in hand with Sheffield, but it’s got plenty of independent spirit and character of its own. Rotherham was one of the first towns to be awarded the title of Enterprise Zone, attracting new industry and development to the area, which has had a really positive influence, right down to the strong number of independent shops and start-up business in the town centre. It’s surrounded by Green Belt land which has created great local amenities for families to enjoy, at the same time as having easy access to city life making it a great base for your new home.

Living here

The River Don and the Minster are Rotherham’s main landmarks, and the town centre is close to both. Two very popular shopping venues, Sheffield’s Meadowhall Shopping Centre and the Parkgate Retail Park compete with Rotherham’s own town centre with the very positive outcome that there are lots of independent shops and start-ups. Westgate is the main focal area for the town’s nightlife if you want to stay closer to home instead of heading into Sheffield.

Getting around

The M1 cuts through between Rotherham and Sheffield and is the area’s key north south route. The A630 connects it with the A1(M) at Doncaster.  Commuting into Sheffield by train is no problem, with an average journey time from Rotherham Central of 20 minutes. There are regular bus services too, with National Express. You’ve got two good options for international travel, with Manchester or Leeds Bradford Airport just over an hour away by car.

Further Education

A town of this size has a full range of schooling for younger children and teenagers. It’s also got three further education colleges: Thomas Rotherham, Dearne Valley and Rotherham College of Arts & Technology. Inspiration, ideas, and options for the future.

Entertaining the family

There are so many different places to enjoy in and close to Rotherham. You’ll enjoy choosing for yourself, from the green space of the Minster Gardens, Clifton Park, the Wentworth Woodhouse estate, and the Ulley Reservoir, to the Westgate pubs and clubs. For children there’s the Magna Science Adventure Centre. For everyone, the Rotherham-by-the-Sea Festival transforms Clifton Park into the seaside, with sand, deckchairs, and seaside amusements.
