Salisbury

You can’t miss that this is a cathedral city, the spire is the tallest in Britain! That’s a great claim to fame for a small sized city. This is a great place to live, and you don’t have to know all about history and architecture to appreciate how pretty it is and how special it is to have this as the backdrop for your new home. The cathedral is the focal point of the town, but Salisbury has more to add. The open space of the Cathedral Green, the buzz of the huge all-year round open-air market, the tempting shops, cafés, and restaurants, all make for a great lifestyle.

Living here

Salisbury is quite a compact place which means that its amenities are all close to hand. The train station, historic cathedral area, shops and market are all within walking distance of each other. It’s a focal point for Wiltshire and an easy base for commuters.

Getting around

Salisbury is very well connected, and the ring road makes it easy to get from one side to the other. It’s on the A36 between Southampton and Bath, and it’s close to the A303 (joining the M3 at Basingstoke) for London, or the South West. Train travel is a great option to and from Salisbury too. It’s on the South West Main Line for trains between Exeter and London Waterloo, as well as the Wessex Main Line between Cardiff and Portsmouth. The Salisbury Reds provides the local bus service, with a bus depot right in the city centre – great name and great service.

Going to School

You’ll find a good balance between state and private education here. There’s the option of a dedicated Sixth Form college, and for further education, one of Wiltshire College’s four campuses is in Salisbury. It offers degree level courses too.

Enjoying yourself

Salisbury is a really good choice for families as there’s so much for you all to do. From family picnics on the Green or the water meadows, to browsing the market for bargains with friends – there’s a fantastic Christmas market too, to all number of options for eating out, it’s your choice. To get away from it all, you can be in the New Forest in half an hour, and for wide open space, Salisbury Plain ticks the boxes. For a change of scenery, you can head to the coast. Bournemouth’s sandy beaches are just 30 miles to the south.
