Sutton on Trent
Sutton on Trent’s name gives it away. It’s a large welcoming village with walks along the River Trent on its doorstep. There’s plenty of green space in and surrounding the village, and you can even see the spire of Lincoln cathedral across the fields as the crow flies. The village is right in the centre of a group of four local destinations for work and leisure: Newark-on-Trent, Mansfield, Worksop, and Lincoln, giving you plenty of options from your new home.
The village has got a range of convenient amenities. These include the all-important village pub, The Lord Nelson. For provisions you’ve got a local Co-op, two independent butchers, and a pop-up Post Office in the village hall. There’s a Doctors’ surgery here too which is a great asset. It’s easy to get into the Newark-on-Trent, or into the cathedral city of Lincoln, for a full range of shops, supermarkets, and leisure and entertainment facilities.
Sutton on Trent is just off the A1 so it’s very convenient for local trips or longer journeys. The B1164 runs via the village, linking with the A1 at Carlton-on-Trent. The A46 is the main route connecting Lincoln with Leicester, and you can join it just outside Newark-on-Trent. Nottingham is just under 30 miles away, taking around 45 minutes by car, though you can also get a train there from Newark. Newark’s North Gate Railway Station runs services on the East Coast Main Line, and you can get to London King’s Cross in around an hour and half.
Going to school
Another asset here is Trent Primary School. This is one of the feeder schools for Tuxford Academy which is about 7 miles north of the village.
You’ll have the river on your doorstep and Lincoln cathedral in your sights. You can stroll from the village for a walk along the riverbanks. The Sutton Holmes walk is a picturesque 4.5-mile route that takes you past the windmill. Lincoln is a great place to visit, with history, culture and great shopping making a good day out whatever your interests. Newark-on-Trent is where you’d head for family entertainment, there’s UK Superbowl, an ODEON Cinema as well as a Netflix Drive-in Cinema on the A46.
