Thame is an award-winning historic market town, which really does have a fantastic atmosphere. Today it’s a thriving place to enjoy, and a sought-after location to call home, with beautiful old buildings to remind you of its past and great connections to London and Oxford. Your new home here is in a picture-perfect setting halfway between Oxford and the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it’s got the best of both those worlds on its doorstep.
You’ll have a lovely town centre to make the most of. There’s a great mix of independent and high street shops, cafés and restaurants, and on Tuesdays there’s an open-air market to browse in. Every second Tuesday in the month there’s a Farmers’ Market for local, farm-fresh produce. Of course, you’ll also have the back up of most of the main national supermarkets, and best of all, everything is within easy reach. There are plenty of parks and sports facilities too.
Thame is only 5 miles east of the M40 so a 10-minute drive will put you on the fast motorway route between London and Birmingham. A train from Haddenham & Thame Parkway station will get you to London Marylebone in under an hour, so this town is a good base if you need to commute. Closer to home, you can be in Oxford in just over half an hour by train, or in around 40 minutes if you take the 280 bus. Heathrow Airport is 35 miles away, taking approximately 40 minutes to drive.
City and countryside
To the west you’ve got the academic spires of Oxford and to the south east you’ve got the beautiful countryside of the Chiltern Hills. So, if you’re wanting some culture, history and great shopping, head for the city. If you want some tranquillity, space, and lunch in a wonderful village pub, head for the hills.
