Warminster

Warminster is a town that’s lucky enough to enjoy the best of South Wiltshire and the best of North Dorset. It’s a historic market town that has always been important to the farming communities of both these lovely rural counties. It’s also an important asset to the nearby army community that has long been based on the edge of Salisbury Plain. This has been reflected in the town’s facilities and services and it’s a partnership that has been very good for the local economy. Warminster has kept its balance though and the shops and cafés of the ancient Market Place and the High Street add character and warmth to its cheerful atmosphere.

In the town

From the independent shops in the old heart of the town to the supermarkets that are dotted around the town centre, from the leisure centre to the wonderful Warminster Lakeside Park, this is a place with something for everyone. There are pubs and restaurants, cafés and sports clubs, and community facilities for local events. Warminster has a very good secondary school as well as a well-known independent school. Together they play a part in the good balance to life here.

In the area

There are some lovely towns and cities within easy reach of Warminster, for both work and play. Bath is 17 miles away, Salisbury is 21 miles away, Shaftesbury is 16 miles away and Frome – with its artisan quarter and famous Frome Independent market – is just 8 miles away. Landmarks and landscapes have made their mark here. Stonehenge, Longleat, Stourhead, the White Horse at Westbury and the stunning landscapes of the West Wiltshire Downs and the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are your local highlights.

Keeping in touch

Warminster is bypassed by the A36 Bath to Salisbury road. The same goes for the A350 which joins the M4 at Junction 17 and the A303 between Chicklade and Mere - the West Country’s two major routes. You can hop on a train at Warminster station and in 8 minutes you’ll be at Westbury for a direct service to London Paddington. If you need to get to London Waterloo, the mainline connection is at Salisbury, 20 minutes away by train. Closer to home, local train services will get you to Bath Spa station in around 40 minutes. It’s a real asset for a rural town to have these excellent connections.
