Wellingborough

Wellingborough is an East Midlands town, 12 miles from Northampton. It’s a good size with plenty of amenities, but it’s also quite compact and so it’s easy to get out into the countryside making it a good choice for a new home. The River Nene flows to the south of the town and its chain of lakes have created a lovely natural landscape. Wellingborough is well-placed for easy access to some of the area’s larger towns, including Kettering, Peterborough, and Bedford, with direct A routes meaning that it’s a convenient base if you need to commute.

Living here

This is a lively town with plenty of green space for families to enjoy. Wellingborough’s town centre is home to most of the high street chains, and the Swansgate Shopping Centre adds to the choice for shopping. There are several out-of-town retail parks, including the Rushden Lakes Shopping Centre – a big venue with something for all the family. You’ve got all the main supermarkets, and the market town tradition carries on with a market three times a week in Whitehorse Yard.

Getting around

East Midlands Railway operate services to and from Wellingborough station. There’s a direct train to London St Pancras taking just under an hour so the town is a popular base for commuters.  Within 2 hours you’ve got the choice of London Stanstead, Luton, East Midlands, and Birmingham airports. The M1 is to the west of Northampton and the A1/A1(M) is to the east, running past Huntingdon.

Green space and water

Wellingborough is a well thought out town with some lovely parks – Croyland Park is the largest and the Embankment Splash Park is the wettest! Out of town you’ve got The Stanwick Lakes, the Sywell Country Park, the Pitsford Water Nature Reserve and Grafham Water – England’s third largest reservoir.

Entertainment

Wellingborough has got two leisure centres, Waendel and Redwell. Waendel has a swimming pool in addition to its other facilities. You can learn about your local history at Wellingborough Museum – children will love Arnie the Dragon, a much-loved local sculpture. Something a bit different and great fun is the Luna Flix Outdoor Cinema for Movies by the Lake, and for rainy days you’ve got the Cineworld Rushden Lakes & IMAX complex.
