Shopping

Gosforth has a vibrant high street offering a variety of shops including M&S Food, Sainsbury’s and ASDA as well as a huge range of other chain and independent stores. The town also has an indoor shopping centre.

Of course for even more choice, simply head into Newcastle and to Eldon Square or jump in the car and drive a short 8-mile distance to the Metrocente in Gateshead.

Leisure

There are plenty of sport and leisure activities in the local area. Visit Newcastle Cycle Tours and take a ride alongside the the river; hire a boat with River Escapes on the Tyne, or enjoy a picnic on the Town Moor which is larger than New York's Central Park!

The Oaklands is also located close to not one, but five golf courses; Northumberland Golf Club, Parklands Golf Club, City of Newcastle Golf Club, Westerhope Golf Course and Newcastle United Golf Club.

Adrenalin-junkies can spend a day (or two) with Endless Adventure North East who specialise in white water rafting, canyoning, gorge walking and 'tubing'! For a more sedate pace of life, spend the day at Jesmond Dene Park - a narrow wooded valley that follows the river Ouseburn between South Gosforth and Jesmond Vale.

Education

The area is brimming with primary and secondary schools (85 in total) including 14 primary schools in or within a mile of Gosforth (four of which are 'Outstanding' state primary schools) and six secondary, of which two are 'Outstanding' state secondary schools.

Transport

Newcastle International Airport is just over 6 miles and offers scheduled flights throughout the UK and Europe as well as being the perfect touch down for tourists who travel to the city. Tyne and Wear Metro service to get into town (onto Monument Station) in around 20 minutes.

A train service runs from London to Newcastle and back approximately every half an hour which also stops at Doncaster and Peterborough; the journey usually takes around 3 hours. Edinburgh is only a one and a half hour train ride away and there are also regular trains that connect the rest of the country including places such as Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, Oxford, Manchester, Glasgow, York and many others.
