‘Peach Fuzz’ has been announced as the new Pantone Colour of the Year. We take a look at some of the ways you can incorporate this soft and cosy shade into your home décor.

Each winter interior designers and enthusiasts wait in anticipation for Pantone to announce their new Colour of the Year – and the choice for 2024 seems to have taken many by surprise.

13-1023 Peach Fuzz is a Pantone colour that contrasts with the selection from previous years. The Pantone Colour of the Year 2023 was Viva Magenta, a bold and vibrant red. Before that came the dynamic blue Very Peri, and in 2021 the cheerful yellow hue Illuminating.

Peach Fuzz is an altogether softer, more comforting colour. It has a hint of the pinks that dominated pop culture in 2023 with the release of the Barbie film, but also of the pared-back neutral tones that could be seen throughout homes on social media.

The shade is described by Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director at Pantone, as “a colour radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.”

This timeless, warm quality that Peach Fuzz possesses is something that many of us seek to emulate in our homes. We want our homes to feel like a welcoming and embracing place to arrive in, yet with a stylish and elegant feel that elevates them.

So, could peach be the missing element from the interior design in your home? Read on for our top tips on how you can incorporate this year’s colour into your space.

1. Make a statement with a peach wall

If you’re looking for a strong colour for an accent wall, but want to stay away from anything too dark and dramatic, peach is a great choice. The shade is subtle enough to blend in nicely with neutrals, and can complement a range of décor styles, from retro to boho. Place accessories in a similar colour palette around the room to tie it all together.

2. As a subtle accent colour

With its pink undertones and gentle warmth Peach Fuzz works well when subtly included in prints and artworks. If you have a sharply contrasting or even monochrome décor scheme, add some peach in the form of wall art, table accessories or as part of a cushion cover. The palette will instantly feel lifted and enlivened.

3. A dream when paired with green

Various shades of green have been all over Instagram home accounts recently, from rich forest green sofas to classic sage kitchens. If you’re a lover of green interiors and want to add in something new, look no further than peach. The two colours pair together perfectly, and you can experiment with different shades to create a look that feels modern, fresh, vintage or autumnal.

4. As part of a multicoloured pattern

Your instant thought is that peach might not be a colour for you, but take a closer look at some of the patterns and designs that you’re drawn to and you might be surprised to see it make an appearance. Understated and sweet, peach is often included in patterns to blend with strong reds, plum and fuschia. If you’re planning a décor scheme around any of these colours, consider introducing some peach to soften it up.

5. Take soft furnishings to a new level of cosy

One of the reasons that Pantone selected Peach Fuzz as its colour of the year was for nurturing, inviting quality. In their words, it’s an “enveloping peach hue that awakens our senses to the comforting presence of tactility and cocooned warmth.” In that case then, what better choice for soft furnishings like armchairs, cushions and blankets, to make you feel truly relaxed and at home.

6. To warm up a white space

It’s easy for predominantly white rooms to feel clinical if they’re not balanced out with some warmer tones. Natural woods and neutral shades can work well, but sometimes a pop of peach does the job beautifully. This bathroom is instantly lifted with a simple peach-coloured towel.

7. To add depth to a room

Dark enough to make its presence known but pale and subtle enough not to shout, peach is a great choice if you’re looking to give some depth and shadow to a room. Adding a soft peach wall to the end of a room can elongate the space, adding dimension and warmth that’s perfect for a cosy bedroom.
