For a small community, Coity has got it all ways. It’s close to the M4 for the main commuting and commercial route across South Wales, it’s halfway between Cardiff and Swansea, close to Bridgend for great local town facilities and close enough to the coast to dip your toes in the sea for a day out. It also happens to have one of the best-preserved castles in Glamorgan as the local landmark for your new home. You can pop into Bridgend, less than 3 miles away, for independent shops, high street stores, cafés and a catch-up with friends.

Junction 36 of the M4 is only a mile away, giving you a direct links to Cardiff and Swansea, each just over 20 miles away. The busy industrial hub at Port Talbot is 15 miles away. The A48 from Bridgend is an alternative route to Cardiff avoiding the motorway and a network of small roads thread cross-country to the coastal towns and villages, including Porthcawl, Ogmore-by-Sea and Barry. Bridgend train station is your nearest mainline station with services right across South Wales and from Chepstow on up to Lydney, Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa. Local bus services connect with Bridgend, Maesteg at the top of the Llynfi Valley and Porthcawl on the coast. Cardiff Airport is 17 miles to the southeast at Rhoose, near Barry.
Local facilities
Coity has its own convenience stores, but for your big shop, there’s a Tesco Superstore on the way into Bridgend. Bridgend is a lovely place with a historic feel – it’s been a market town since the 16th Century - for a range of local shops and a great indoor market in the pedestrianised centre. The Rhiw Shopping Centre and the Bridgend Shopping Centre bring some of the well-known high street names to the town. Carnegie House is the town’s Arts Centre, for exhibitions, events and classes of all sorts. As well as several primary schools to choose from, there are three high schools in Bridgend: Brynteg Comprehensive, Bryntirion Comprehensive and Archbishop McGrath RC Comprehensive. Bridgend College offers further and higher education alongside vocational courses and GCSE’s. It’s a very popular college, with students coming in from Swansea and Cardiff.
Out and about
The M4 serves a wonderful purpose quite apart from taking you to work. It gives you quick access to the Gower Peninsular Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it leads you on towards Pembrokeshire and the stunning coastline there, it takes you into Cardiff for a city break packed with shopping, culture, entertainment and sport. From Neath you can peel off the motorway and head up the A465 into the Brecon Beacons National Park via Merthyr Tydfil. Closer to home, the beach at Porthcawl is renowned for all-year-round surfing and the seaside resort at Barry doubles up a lovely sandy beach with the Barry Island Pleasure Park. A short drive north of Coity, you’ve got the Bryngarw Country Park, with over 100 acres of cycle tracks, woodland, gardens and a play area.
