Liskeard
There are two key routes into Cornwall from Devon and Liskeard is on one of them. It's between Plymouth across the border in Devon, and Bodmin at the heart of Cornwall, making it a great location for a new home. It’s a small market town with a quiet, traditional feel, a historic town centre, narrow streets lined with local shops and a market square giving it plenty of character. This very rural county relies on the transport network to keep it going, and with a train station on the London Paddington to Penzance mainline, and the A38 Bypass connecting the town with the rest of Cornwall and with Devon, Liskeard is a great all-rounder.

Transport
The A38 and the A30 are Cornwall’s two main road routes linking Devon with the very far west. Liskeard is on the southern route, the A38, with a town bypass to help keep its peaceful feel. It’s 20 miles west of Plymouth and 12 miles east of Bodmin, which is where the A38 meets the A30 on its way down to Penzance. The A38 reaches Plymouth via the Saltash bridge, the main River Tamar crossing. The town has a convenient train station on the Cornish mainline. There’s a service to London Paddington via Bristol. If you need to commute into Plymouth, the train journey takes about 30 minutes, so it’s a good option. There’s a branch line to the seaside town of Looe on the south coast, taking about 30 minutes too. Local bus services keep Liskeard connected with the surrounding villages as well as the larger towns in Southeast Cornwall.
Local schools
The town has two primary schools, Hillfort Primary and St Martins C of E Primary, and some of the surrounding villages also have community primary schools. Liskeard School & Community College is the main secondary school for this area. Callywith College in Bodmin, is a post-16 college, and there are more options for further and higher education in Plymouth.
Entertainment and Leisure
Liskeard Leisure Centre has a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, a floodlit Astro-turf pitch for hockey and football, a gym and fitness classes. If you want to keep fit in the great outdoors, you are not far from the Southwest Coastal Path or the wild open space of Bodmin Moor for hiking and biking. Plymouth is your port of call for theatre, cinema and the nightlife of the Barbican.
Shopping list
As well as its range of local shops, Liskeard has an Aldi, a Co-op and a Morrisons. Out of town there’s the Liskeard Trago Mills, a popular outlet selling just about everything. Plymouth city centre has all the high street brands and a huge shopping centre at Drake Circus if you want to make a day of it. Back to basics, there’s a local food market on the 2nd Saturday of the month where you can support your local producers and enjoy some of the best food that Cornwall has to offer.
