Planning permission for latest phase at major Cardiff development

Charles Church has secured planning consent for the second phase of its Glan y Coed scheme on the outskirts of the Welsh capital.

The accredited five-star housebuilder’s East Wales business will soon begin construction on the next 51 properties at the outlet in Creigiau, adjacent to The Parish, the site of its sister company, Persimmon Homes.

The plans include enhanced ecological mitigation to support local wildlife such as dormice, reptiles, bats, and birds. There will also be an attenuation basin as part of the drainage strategy which also plays home to amphibians and invertebrates.

Approval means the site’s spine road, which will host bus stops, will continue as well as the segregated cycleway and shared cyclist-pedestrian route in the public open space.

Persimmon and Charles Church are delivering up to 1,250 high-quality homes across this site. The scheme also includes a primary school, shops, offices, and sport pitches. The local centre will deliver new commercial units, as well as a new public square within this with space for potential outdoor dining, markets, and socialising.

Persimmon is currently progressing its planning application for Phase 5 of its scheme. It includes an equipped play area, the restoration of the Cadoxton Line railway bridge, and the creation of a viewing point.

Four and five-bed properties are available from £499,995 at Glan y Coed. Persimmon also has three and four-bedroom homes for sale from £365,000 at The Parish next door.

Commenting, Charles Church East Wales’ managing director, Lee Hawker, said:

“We’re very pleased to have continued our track record of planning consent at Glan y Coed, demonstrating the quality of applications being brought forward by Charles Church and Persimmon Homes.

“Our properties at Glan y Coed provide a great opportunity for aspirational and larger households to move into a property that benefits from both a rural setting whilst being remaining close to Cardiff, the M4, and other amenities like nearby Talbot Green.

“We look forward to carrying on our good work on site and building on our relationship with Cardiff Council as we progress our future applications and build programmes here.”
