At first glance, Glasgow grabs all the attention, and it’s a great place to head for work, shopping, entertainment and education, but as you head away from the city, this stunningly unspoilt - and in many places remote – county will grab your imagination.
A scattering of islands along the coastline starting at the Firth of Clyde, include the Island of Bute, Islay and the Isle of Mull, and a long peninsula comes to a halt below Campbeltown, at the famous Mull of Kintyre. To the east, the county border follows the shores of Loch Lomond on the edge of the Trossachs National Park.
Country roads and island-hopping ferries are a way of life in this area. The A83 is the main road linking the north and south of the county, joining the A82 along the shores of Loch Lomond to connect with Glasgow’s busy road and rail network and of course its airport.
