Penrith
If you want to be close to the Lake District for time off in its dramatic scenery, and close to the M6 for getting to work, this popular market town in Cumbria’s Eden Valley is going to be an excellent choice for your new home and for family life.
Penrith is the shopping, business and social centre for the area so all the amenities you’ll need to settle in are on hand.
The Eden Valley has the Lake District on one side, the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the other, and Carlisle at its head. What a setting to call home.

Living here
Penrith has got all the amenities and facilities that justify its market town status. The town centre offers independent and specialist shops, high street brands and market stalls. It’s an agricultural hub in the area and local produce is well supported. For the convenience of a big shop, you’ve got the main supermarkets dotted around the town.
Getting around
The M6 passes right by Penrith so it’s a great link with Carlisle to the north, and Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Birmingham to the south. It’s the crossing point for the A66 which takes you to Keswick in the Lakes and to the A1(M) across the moors. Penrith North Lakes train station is on the West Coast Main Line, a great back up to the motorway. It takes about an hour and half to reach Newcastle Airport by car, via the M6 and then the A69. The Fellrunner Bus Service says it all!
Going to school
Penrith has got the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School as well as the Ullswater Community College for secondary age students, along with some lovely feeder schools for primary and junior age children. Students won’t have to go far for Geography field trips or the Duke of Edinburgh challenge!
Leisure and Entertainment.
Penrith’s setting between the Lake District and the Pennines has all your outdoor activity sorted. The Penrith Leisure Centre has a large gym, 25 metre swimming pool, a separate children’s pool, a six-court sports hall, and an outdoor Astro pitch. There’s even a climbing wall. An option for inevitable rainy days is the Lonsdale Alhambra cinema, while Penrith’s ruined castle adds to the atmosphere of living here.
