Pontyclun

Pontyclun is almost exactly halfway between Cardiff and Bridgend. With the M4 on its doorstep, it’s a great starting point for your new home. Pontyclun is a very convenient place to live if you need to commute in either direction, so it’s become popular with families and has a good community feel.

It doesn’t take much longer to get to the Brecon Beacons National Park than it does to the coast, so that’s a ready-made work-life balance away from the busy working life of the motorway.

Living in Pontyclun

Living here

It may be close to the M4, but Pontyclun is a quiet place with local shops, a market, golf course and there’s a shopping park at Talbot Green along with some of the high street brands. For supermarkets you’ve got Tesco Express, ALDI and Co-op.

Getting around

The M4 is the driving force for South Wales, linking all the main cites and towns between Newport and Swansea, and so it’s a bonus that it’s so close. It’s the only motorway in the area and that means that it’s easy to get off the beaten track too. The A470 from Junction 32 just outside Cardiff is the main A route north, and the A4232 from Junction 33 takes you around the west of Cardiff to Penarth. Trains from Pontyclun’s station, which is unmanned, get you into Cardiff Central in less than 20 minutes and to Swansea the average journey time is just under an hour. Cardiff Airport is just 13 miles to the south. Pontyclun has five bus routes, connecting with Cardiff and Bridgend.

Going to school

Options for your children are close to home, with two primary schools and a secondary school. Y Pant Secondary School is in the neighbouring village of Talbot Green less than 2 miles away.

Time off and time out

Cardiff has got all that you could possibly want for shopping, entertainment and nightlife. Being a very popular university city adds to the range of amenities and the vibrant feel of the city centre. Sport is big here and Cardiff’s Principality Stadium is the national stadium of Wales. If you want to get away from it all, you can be in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park in under an hour. For another sort of getting away from it all, try a bit of pampering at the Lanelay Hall Hotel & Spa.
