Great Blakenham
Great Blakenham rubs shoulders with Ipswich and with one of Suffolk’s main cross-country routes, keeping it well-connected and making it a convenient base to come home to after a working day in the town or further afield. It’s only 5 miles into Ipswich for town centre amenities, 4 miles to Needham Market for East Anglia mainline train services and no distance at all to the lovely Suffolk countryside. It’s close enough to Ipswich to be a part of its busy business and commercial life yet it’s still a self-contained village community.

Getting around
The A14 and the A12 are the driving force for business, commercial and leisure travel across the county from the busy container port of Felixstowe on the coast and from Essex to the south, with Ipswich en route. The A14 carries on inland to Bury St Edmunds and the A12 follows the east coast up to Lowestoft. Cross-country routes connect with the A134 which is an alternative route to Bury St Edmunds and with the A140 to Norwich. Needham Market is on the Great Eastern mainline, with services into Ipswich and up to Cambridge.
Local facilities
Great Blakenham has day-to-day facilities of its own, with a Budgens convenience store, a farm shop, a village hall and recreation ground, and Chequers - a welcoming village pub. Additional facilities are on hand in the neighbouring village of Claydon, including a Co-op, a pre-school, primary school and a high school. For a bit of peace and quiet you can stroll along the River Gipping and through the water meadows.
Lovely places
Apart from the 24/7 maritime hub of Felixstowe and its commercial relationship with Ipswich, Suffolk is a largely rural county with gentle countryside, traditional market towns and ancient villages. You can put Lavenham, one of the best-preserved medieval villages in the country let alone the county, Woodbridge for a riverside market town with a vibrant high street, the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Dedham Vale, on your day trip wish-list.
