Getting around

The A14 and the A12 are the driving force for business, commercial and leisure travel across the county from the busy container port of Felixstowe on the coast and from Essex to the south, with Ipswich en route. The A14 carries on inland to Bury St Edmunds and the A12 follows the east coast up to Lowestoft. Cross-country routes connect with the A134 which is an alternative route to Bury St Edmunds and with the A140 to Norwich. Needham Market is on the Great Eastern mainline, with services into Ipswich and up to Cambridge.

Local facilities

Great Blakenham has day-to-day facilities of its own, with a Budgens convenience store, a farm shop, a village hall and recreation ground, and Chequers - a welcoming village pub. Additional facilities are on hand in the neighbouring village of Claydon, including a Co-op, a pre-school, primary school and a high school. For a bit of peace and quiet you can stroll along the River Gipping and through the water meadows.

Apart from the 24/7 maritime hub of Felixstowe and its commercial relationship with Ipswich, Suffolk is a largely rural county with gentle countryside, traditional market towns and ancient villages.
