Hadleigh

Hadleigh is a really old market town with ancient buildings, a wonderful high street and a heritage that goes back centuries. It’s a lovely small town to live in, with amenities and facilities for today’s family life. With history everywhere you look in the town, beautiful countryside around it and great connections to Ipswich, Colchester and Bury St Edmunds, this is an excellent choice for the location for your new home and your new life in Suffolk.

Keeping in touch

Whether for work or leisure, it’s important to feel well-connected. Hadleigh is to the west of Ipswich where the A12 provides a vital link between Greater London and Colchester to the south, and Lowestoft on the east coast. The network of local roads link with the A134 between Bury St Edmunds and Downham Market, with the A131 to Braintree in Essex and the A14 to Felixstowe. Sudbury, 11 miles away, and Ipswich 10 miles away, have the nearest train stations for mainline services. Ipswich has the edge with a slightly shorter journey time into London, on average an hour and 16 minutes. Regular bus services between Ipswich and Sudbury pass through the town. London Stansted Airport is 50 miles away, about an hour’s drive.

Local services

There are a range of local shops in the high street, a Morrisons to the north of the town and more central Co-op and SPAR convenience stores. For larger supermarkets such as Tesco Extra and Sainsbury’s, and for high street brands, you’d go into Ipswich. One of the best things about a small town is its market as it’s a great meeting place for the community - quite apart from all the fresh local produce. Hadleigh’s market is on a Friday.

Local schools

Young children can go to St Mary’s Church of England Primary School, Hadleigh Community Primary School, and Hadleigh Parkside Pre-School. Hadleigh High School takes pupils aged 11 – 16 years.  Other secondary school options in the area include East Bergholt High School, Manningtree High School and Claydon High School.

In the area

Suffolk is a lovely rural county, of course it’s got some busy commercial and industrial centres, but Hadleigh is surrounded by gentle countryside and historic villages. Medieval Lavenham is packed with black and white timber-framed houses, The Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is on the Suffolk/Essex border and has links with the famous landscape artist, John Constable. Ipswich will oblige with bars and restaurants around the trendy harbourside area, for lunch following a city centre shopping trip or a night out.
