Location location
The Scottish motorway network is right on hand. The M80 passes above the town. To the west it links with the M73, M74 and M8, and to the northeast it links with the M876 and the M9. This puts Glasgow, Falkirk, Stirling, Edinburgh and Dunfermline firmly on the map for commuters. It’s 14 miles to Glasgow, 12 miles to Falkirk, and 39 miles to Edinburgh. The A73 is another direct route into the town, heading south and connecting with the A71. Direct train services into Glasgow Queen Street station take around half an hour. There are good bus services throughout the town, as well as a bus link to Glasgow Airport.
School life
Cumbernauld has plenty of choices when it comes to schools for your children. There are 16 primary schools, 4 high schools, 2 special-needs schools and the New College Lanarkshire is the town’s further education college. The town was designed with distinct residential areas and each one is well-served by its local schools, some of which have been re-built and now offer state-of-the-art facilities.

With a mix of local and independent shops, national brands in the shopping centres and retail parks, supermarkets and superstores, you’ll not be far from all these options. The Asda Superstore is to the east of the town and the Tesco Superstore is to the north. Glasgow is in your sights for a day of dedicated retail therapy, followed by a night out. The Tryst Sports Centre, the Palacerigg Golf Course, the Ravenswood Playing Fields and the Broadwood Stadium, are just some of the venues to keep you on the go. Add the Palacerigg Country Park, the Drumpellier Country Park, the Seven Lochs Wetland Park and the Cumbernauld Glen Wildlife Reserve, and you’ve got family-friendly day trips all lined up.
