Port Talbot

Port Talbot is a vital player in the life of South Wales. Swansea Bay stretches out in front of it, and the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park are on the horizon inland.

Swansea – just eight miles away - Bridgend, Cardiff and Newport share the M4 motorway link with Port Talbot, and it keeps business, industry and tourism on the go. A new home here gives you the choice of city life for work opportunities and coast and countryside for time out.

Living in Port Talbot

Excellent transport links

The M4 takes the lion’s share of the road traffic here and it’s a great asset for leisure as well as for work journeys. Junctions 38 to 41 serve the town. To add to that, Port Talbot is on the South Wales main line, with train services from Port Talbot Parkway to Swansea, Cardiff, Bristol and London Paddington, as well as to Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly. It takes about 40 mins by train to Cardiff and about 20 minutes to Swansea.

The great outdoors

One of the most exciting new leisure opportunities in the pipeline for this area comes in the form of the Afan Valley Adventure Resort. A short journey inland will bring skiing, an aqua centre, an equestrian centre, zip wires and a tree top adventure course – and to cap it all, The Bear Grylls Survival Academy.  If that all sounds too much, you will be able to book into a luxury on-site spa. In the meantime, you’ve got the beaches of Swansea Bay, the Gower Peninsula Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Afan Forest and of course the mountains of the Brecon Beacons.

Local amenities and facilities

It’s all very well planning days out, but it’s good to know that day-to-day services are all on hand too, from shops and supermarkets, to schools and sports clubs. The Port Talbot area has four comprehensive secondary schools, and the Neath Port Talbot Further Education College and a campus of the University of Wales have homes here too. Local shops are well covered for all those essentials, and for something special it’s an easy trip into Swansea for high street brands, or to Cardiff for renowned retail therapy.
