Rhos may be a small village, but it’s midway between the great expanse of water at Swansea Bay and the even greater landscape of the Brecon Beacons.
It’s close to the larger community at Pontardawe and within convenient commuting distance of Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot. A new home here, in one of the main Swansea Valleys, gives you a new community alongside the heritage of an older one.
The working landscapes of the Welsh valleys have changed over the years but not the community spirit, and the new homes here keep that tradition going. Straightforward road links connect with the M4 just above Swansea and a cross-country route takes you directly to Neath, making this a great place to buy your new home.
Going to town
Neath and Port Talbot are the largest towns in the area, and of course, Swansea is one of Wales’s well-known cities. Neath is the closest to Rhos, just under 5 miles away. Port Talbot is 11 miles away and Swansea is 10 miles away. The M4 is the main motorway route serving South Wales and the nearest junction for Rhos is junction 45, via the A4067.
Rhos has its own primary school, a post office and convenience store, a community centre and football club. Just a couple of miles away in Pontardawe you’ll find a Tesco Superstore, a Lidl, a leisure centre, a swimming pool, a health centre and a full range of other small businesses, shops and takeaways. The town offers additional primary schools and a Community School for secondary education. Pontardawe College is one of a group of further education colleges in the wider Neath area.
Coast and countryside
Swansea Bay has much more to offer than beaches, though the long sandy beach at Aberavon is a firm favourite. Swansea’s National Waterfront Museum also makes the most of views across the bay, and Mumbles Beach on the Gower Peninsula is a great starting point for coastal path walks around the headland. Also close to home is the Afan Forest Park, for walking and mountain bike trails. However, if you head up into the Brecon Beacons, you can truly get off the beaten track.
