The busy urban environment of Birmingham just over the border to the east seems like another world from Shropshire’s historic towns such as Much Wenlock, Bishops Castle and Bridgnorth, with their black and white timbered houses. A very natural part of a day out is a spot of retail therapy, whether  it’s in the artisan-inspired streets and markets of Ludlow, or at the 25-acre Telford Centre, a treat is in store.

The road network heads towards Shrewsbury, the county town, where the M54 connects to the M6. The A49 is the direct route south into Herefordshire. With trains linking the mainline stations at Crewe and Birmingham, travelling from one world to another is easy.
