Local information
This is a city of parts, each with its own local facilities and services, but all together, it's the largest metropolitan area outside London. It's towns include Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Solihull and Sutton Coldfield. The M5, M6, M6 Toll and M42 create the local motorway network. The Bullring is the city's iconic shopping complex, and Birmingham New Street Station is the focus for national train travel. The National Exhibition Centre and Birmingham Airport, are side by side to the east of the city.

Each of the towns making up the Greater Birmingham area, has its own group of schools and there are therefore excellent options depending on your catchment area. There are three universities and two university colleges within the city, making Birmingham the largest centre for higher education outside London.
