Stanground is a popular residential area right on the edge of the cathedral city of Peterborough, with the River Nene and the fields of Cambridgeshire creating its natural borders. This is the edge of the Fens, between the city and the coast, a unique and historic rural landscape right on your doorstep. It’s a great setting for a new home as you’ve got all the benefits of Peterborough in one direction and open countryside in the other.
There are plenty of local amenities for day-to-day shopping and services, and with Peterborough city centre just two miles away, you’ll have city-sized facilities to hand as well. The Queensgate Shopping Centre is in the heart of the historic city centre, where there are plenty of independent shops and a great atmosphere too. There’s a city market, several retail parks and all the usual supermarkets, so plenty of choice and everything you could need.
Stanground is linked with the A1(M) by the Fletton Parkway (the A605), an easy route to the south of Peterborough. Along with the Nene Parkway, the A47 and the Frank Perkins Parkway, there’s a very useful circular route around the city. The A605 skirts along the edge of Stanground before heading out to Whittlesey where connecting routes take you to Downham Market, King’s Lynn and Norwich. Peterborough’s train station is a major interchange on the East Coast mainline. The average journey time to London King's Cross is about an hour and a half.
Going to school
As well as a good choice of pre-school and primary schools, Stanground Academy provides secondary education and a sixth form. Peterborough College, part of the Inspire Education Group, is another local option for older students.
This isn’t just flat, marshy land with a reputation for flooding. This is rich agricultural land with history to go with it, from cathedrals and abbeys to ancient villages, windmills and nature reserves. It’s ideal walking and cycling country, and if you head over the border into Norfolk you’ll find some stunning unspoilt beaches.
