Living in Derbyshire

Right in the centre of England, the Peak District is the famous high point here, with the glorious Derbyshire Dales below it. With so much lovely countryside, lively city life meets its match.

Derby, the largest city and the industrial powerhouse is in the south, Chesterfield is in the northeast, and over the border to the north Manchester is the enthusiastic trend-setter for culture and nightlife. Sheffield is just over the border too. Market towns and picturesque villages complete the picture in-between.

Back in the hills, Edale is the starting point for your first steps along England’s longest hiking trail, The Pennine Way.  Dipping down to the east, the scenic waters of the Ladybower Reservoir are Derbyshire’s answer to being an inland county.

The M1 nips in and out from Leicestershire to South Yorkshire, while the A57 is one of many cross-country routes that are panoramic and practical in equal measure. Derby is the mainline hub for East Midlands Trains with services getting you to London in just over an hour and a half.
