Travel and transport

The A53, A515 and A6020 are the main routes that serve the town, connecting it with the key towns around the edge of the Peak District, including Manchester to the north and Macclesfield to the west. Buxton is equidistant between the M1 and the M6. Buxton's railway station runs services to Stockport and Manchester on the Northern Line. It takes under an hour to get to Manchester Piccadilly and from there there are direct services to London.

As a famous Spa town, Buxton's reputation brings business to town. Living here gives you all the usual local services as well as a thriving atmosphere, with plenty of cafes, restaurants, and independent shops to enjoy. Tourism is a major industry here and the famous Buxton Mineral Water Company is another leading employer. Independent businesses are balanced by national chains, including a choice of supermarkets.

A very wide choice of primary schools is available across the town. Secondary schools include Buxton Community School and St Thomas More Catholic School. For further education, Buxton & Leek College is the town's provider. For higher education, the University of Derby has a campus here.
