Wantage

Wantage is a historic market town that has grown with the times whilst keeping its lovely atmosphere and character. It’s just 14 miles south of Oxford, and with mainline train services from Didcot Station 9 miles away, it’s a very convenient base for your new home. The appropriately named Market Place is the traditional heart of the town and there are a good range of independent shops in the streets around it, always a good sign of a thriving community.

This is a cheerful, family-friendly, well established town to live in. It’s got the appeal of its history, the convenience of local shops, great rail connections to Oxford and London via Didcot, and some of Oxfordshire and Berkshire’s most glorious countryside a stone’s throw away.

Getting around

Wantage is halfway between Oxford and the M4 so it’s a good starting point for anyone who needs to commute.  Didcot Parkway train station is 9 miles to the east, with mainline services to London Paddington taking under an hour. The A34 is the main north-south route just to the east of the town, with Oxford just half an hour’s drive away. Reading is a commutable 45-minute drive via the M4, and Swindon is about 40 minutes’ drive.

Going to school

As well as its range of primary schools, Wantage has a its own secondary school, King Alfred’s Academy. The Vale Academy Trust has enabled a great partnership with King Alfred’s and several of the local primary schools.

Enjoying yourself

A town with a busy market has a head start for atmosphere and as a focal point, quite apart from offering lovely fresh local produce.  The famous and iconic White Horse of Uffington is the local landmark and a great place for a change of scenery, with panoramic views over the Oxfordshire and Berkshire countryside. It’s just 7 miles away.
