Safety in your new home

When it comes to life in your new home, nothing is more important than your safety and the safety of your loved ones. Read on for advice on staying safe in your new Charles Church home.

At Charles Church we pride ourselves on building homes that are far safe and more secure than older buildings. We also offer additional safety features including alarms and security lighting in our Select Options. There are a few extra things you can keep in mind to feel secure as possible in your new home.

When you move in

When you moved in, you’ll have been given an exclusive emergency cover number to call in the unlikely event of a complete power failure, gas leak, water escape or severe drain blockage.

We also recommend taking a note of where all the mains supplies are located in your home, in case you need to access them. These include stop-cocks, gas meters, electricity meters, fuse boxes and any oil containers.

If you experience a leak in the gas or water supply, immediately turn off the supply at the mains, valve or switch and leave the property.

Did you know…

There are an estimated 37,000 house fires every year in the UK. With this in mind, here are six trusted ways to reduce the risk of fire in your home.

Six steps to reducing the risk of fire in your home

  1. Test your pre-fitted smoke alarms once a week
  2. Keep your electrical appliances in good working order at all times.
  3. Take extra care when cooking, as 50% of accidental house fires start in the kitchen.
  4. Always make sure to fully put out any cigarettes and dispose of them safely.
  5. Ensure you and your family have a planned escape route in the event of an emergency.
  6. Start a bedtime safety routine that includes turning off mobile phone chargers and putting out candles.
