Living in Tiptree

Road and rail

Two good cross-country routes cross in Tiptree. The B1022 between Maldon and Colchester, and the B1023 between the coast and the A12 at Kelvedon. The A12 is just a 10-minute drive from Tiptree – close enough to be very convenient, far enough away to feel comfortably off the beaten track. The A12 is a key transport route between East London and Ipswich, connecting with the M25 at Brentwood. Kelvedon is also the closest train station for Tiptree. Regular services get you to London Liverpool Street in just under an hour

Local facilities

Tiptree has plenty of independent shops and businesses along its high street, with the advantage of backup from three supermarkets – Tesco, Asda, and Iceland. There’s a leisure centre in the town for the energetic, four primary schools and a secondary school for your children, and the famous Tiptree Jam tea room and museum for your visitors. Tiptree also has a medical centre, a vet, a garden centre, several pubs, and a range of takeaways and cafes.

A walk in the park

As well as Tiptree’s own green spaces, Messing Park and the Tiptree Woods Walk on the outskirts of Tiptree, and the Abberton Reservoir a short drive to the east, are excellent local places for walking the dog. Rivenhall Oaks Golf Centre and Braxted Park are to the west of Tiptree, and there are three local fishing lakes, two at Inworth Grange and one at Brookhall Lake. On the coast, the Blackwater Estuary National Nature Reserve is a wildlife haven covering 21 square miles.
