Clipstone
Clipstone used to be one of Nottinghamshire’s mining towns and it’s more of a village than a town, with plenty of local facilities of its own, and close to Mansfield for a step-up in scale.
With Sherwood Forest as its countryside neighbour, this is a home base with legends and history as well as famous woodland on its doorstep. A new home here has easy access to the M1 to the west of Mansfield for a direct route to Nottingham and Sheffield, as well as all the other key cities and towns that benefit from this key north-south motorway.

Central location
The road and rail networks through the East Midlands keep Nottinghamshire well-connected with the rest of the Midlands and with the main cities and towns of Yorkshire.
Clipstone is on the B6030 which joins the A60 as it heads into Mansfield, 4 miles away. From there the A38 links with Junction 28 of the M1, or you can take a route north from Mansfield on the A6191 and the A617 to join the M1 at Junction 29. To the east of the village, you can take the A614 which joins the A1 just outside Workshop. The A614 is also a southbound route to Nottingham.
Mansfield’s train stations put you on the East Midlands Railway network, with services to Nottingham taking just over half an hour. Local bus services in and out of Mansfield pass through Clipstone. For flights, East Midlands Airport is a convenient 22 miles away.
Going into town
Mansfield is where you’ll find all your shopping options, from day-to-day supermarket shopping to treats in the independent shops, and a browse in the market. The pedestrianised market square is a real focal point. There are three shopping centres, The Four Seasons, St Peters Retail Park, and the Rosemary Centre. The East Midlands Designer Outlet is nearby too.
For an evening out, Mansfield offers cinema, theatre, restaurants, and bars. For sport and leisure, there are several venues you can choose from; The Water Meadows Swimming and Fitness Complex, The River Maun Recreation Centre and the Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre, named after the town’s famous daughter.
Going to school
Clipstone’s schools are the Samuel Barlow Primary Academy and Newlands Junior School, and the local senior school, Garibaldi College, for 11 – 18-year-olds. There are more options in neighbouring Forest Town. West Notts College in Mansfield is the main provider of post-16 education in the area.
Going out
For day trips out and about, the Sherwood Pines Forest Park is perfect for energetic children (and adults!). There are activity trails, mountain biking trails – and bike hire if you don’t have your own - and Go Ape’s exciting zip wires.
The National Trust’s Hardwick Hall is an Elizabethan country house with lovely walks around the estate and gardens. Also belonging to the National Trust, is Clumber Park, for tranquil lakeside and woodland walks.
