Havant
Havant sits happily between seafaring Portsmouth and sailing haven Chichester. For all its great connections, this is a surprisingly rural part of southeast Hampshire. It’s just below the South Downs National Park, where the Solent has shaped the history and economy of this important maritime area.
A new home here has the bonus of city, coast, and countryside close-by. Havant is on the long coastal route between Eastbourne and Southampton, it’s got the A3(M) on its doorstep taking you straight up north to the M25 and London, via Guildford, and it’s got the beaches of Hayling Island and West Wittering a stone’s throw away.

Travel plans
Good road connections are vital in an area that successfully combines business, industry, and tourism. The A27 passes to the south of the town, from Chichester in the east, to Fareham in the west before becoming the M27. The A3(M) becomes the A3, passing Petersfield, Godalming, and Guildford before reaching Greater London.
Havant’s railway station is on the Portsmouth Direct Line, running services between Portsmouth Harbour and London Waterloo. The journey time by train to London is on average 1 hour and 48 minutes and the commute by train into Portsmouth takes an average 16 minutes, making it a great option if you prefer to leave the car at home.
For domestic and European flights, Southampton Airport is your local port of call, 22 miles away. Local bus services connect to the main cities and towns along the coast as well as inland to many of East Hampshire’s rural village communities.
Home comforts
Havant has a lovely town centre which is partly pedestrianised. There are plenty of local shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, and the main shops are in the Meridian Shopping Centre. The Asda Supercentre leads the way, with Waitrose, Tesco, Lidl, the Co-op, and a range of local convenience stores keeping you well stocked.
Hometown education
There are several primary schools in the catchment area, and for secondary education, pupils can attend Havant Academy, and Oaklands Catholic School, which has Academy status. Springfield School is a co-educational secondary school on the outskirts of Portsmouth, and Crookhorn College is at Waterlooville.
Home and away
There are plenty of home-grown sports, leisure and entertainment options in Havant, including a thriving Arts Centre and the Horizon Leisure Centre. Out and about you’re in such a great location for day trips. Whether to historic Old Portsmouth or Chichester, the resorts of Hayling Island, the sandy beaches at the Witterings, or the rolling countryside of the South Downs. There’s a very long list of day trips and family outings for you to enjoy.
