Dawlish
Dawlish is a small seaside town on the South Devon coast between Exeter and Torquay. Its long sandy Blue Flag beach makes it popular with local families and visitors alike. You’ll enjoy your new home here, with its busy summer atmosphere, as well as out-of-season when you can enjoy wind-swept walks along the beach to the sand dunes and nature reserve at Dawlish Warren on the mouth of the River Exe. Torquay and Exeter are great destinations for shopping, entertainment and leisure and this part of South Devon is blessed with some beautiful villages and country pubs. For a change of seaside scenery, try Teignmouth and Shaldon just a short drive further down the coast, Powderham Castle is a few miles inland - there's a fantastic walk along the Exe from the church there - and the Haldon Forest for cycle trails and family adventures at Go Ape.

As it’s quick and easy to get into Exeter, Devon’s county capital, Dawlish is a hit with working families, young professionals and as a place to retire to, all adding up to a happily balanced community. There’s a good range of local shops in the town centre, either side of The Lawn, and you can find all the high street brands in nearby Exeter. If you’ve got a dog, a generous part of Dawlish Warren Beach welcomes dogs all year round.
Getting around
Dawlish is a short distance from the main road network, but it’s very easy to get to the M5 at Exeter and the A380 Torquay road. It’s halfway between Exeter and Torquay, each about 12 miles away, with the equally popular seaside towns of Teignmouth and Shaldon, just 4 miles away. A great asset is its train station on the Great Western Railway line. You can be in Exeter in 22 minutes. Not only that, but it’s also a fabulous scenic route along the River Exe.
Going to school
Dawlish has a choice of primary schools, and for secondary education, Dawlish College is the main provider. For further education, South Devon College has campuses in Paignton, Newton Abbot and Torquay. Exeter College is another option for Post 16-years courses and Exeter University is one of the UK's leading research and teaching institutions.

There’s something for everyone in Dawlish, as well as in nearby Teignmouth and Exeter. Dawlish Leisure Centre has a 25m pool, 6 sports courts, a gym and a wide range of exercise classes. There’s a skate park next to it for youngsters to enjoy. Dawlish Warren has a nature reserve as well as its popular beach. It’s on a spit of land at the mouth of the River Exe and is a great place for keen birdwatchers. The Ashcombe Outdoor Adventure Centre is a stone’s throw inland from Dawlish, and for a bit of local culture and plenty of events every year, Powderham Castle is just 6 miles away. A seaside town wouldn’t be complete without an amusement park, and Funder Park has all the traditional family-fun for a weekend treat.
